22nd Meeting of Insurance and Reinsurance – SORS 2011
From 15 to 17 June the 22nd Meeting of Insurers and Reinsurers Sarajevo - SorS 2011 - was held at the hotel Holiday Inn in Sarajevo. This traditional meeting at the highest level of the insurance industry brought together around 180 CEOs and other leading figures of the most important insurance and reinsurance companies from the region and the world, and again proved its success and the need for such gathering.
This year, their experiences amended, and also met with new developments in the insurance profession, representatives of insurance and reinsurance companies such as United Re, Lloyd Croatia, Croatia Insurance, DDOR Novi Sad, Danube, Euroherc, Lovćen Insurance, Sarajevo Insurance, Triglav Insurance, Takovo Insurance, Grawe, Basler, Uniqa and others, and global companies such as Munich Re, AON Benfield, Guy Carpenter, Hannover Re, JLT Re, Swiss Re, Transatlantic Re, Willis Re, Trust Re. The meeting was opened by this year's Chairman of the Directors Board of SorS Insurance Association and Director of the only reinsurance company in Croatia, Mr. Robert Stude.

The main topic of the SorS 2011 were the integration processes and their impact on the competitiveness of the insurance industry. After the welcome cocktail party, the working part of the conference began the next day with presentation of the insurance markets of all countries in the region. Croatia has introduced by Hrvoje Pauković, Director of the Croatian Insurance Bureau, Bosnia and Herzegovina by Aida Imamović of Insurance Agency in BiH, Slovenia by Mirko Kaluža, Director of the Slovensko zavarovalno združenje; Macedonia by Leposava Gelevska from the Insurance Office, Montenegro by Boris Šaban, National Bureau of Insurers of the Republic of Montenegro and Serbia by Sanja Sarić from the Association of Insurers of Serbia.

After the presentation of the insurance markets of all countries in the region, the following lectures were held: Prof. Dr. Boris Marović and Dr. Sc. Vladimir Njegomir: Integration process - the global and regional aspects, Dr. Sc. Milijana Novović and Dr. Sc. Radenko Purić: The implications of the integration process on the competition with an emphasis on the insurance market in Montenegro, M. Sc. Uroš Ivanc: Reasons and consequences of integration processes in the insurance of South Eastern Europe and M. Sc. Enes Sadović: The competitiveness of life insurance in BiH in time of insurance markets globalization.

After the lectures, there was a panel discussion regarding the integration processes, and the third day two round tables: Liability damage of car insurance, led by Marijan Ćurković, and the other on Technical reserves in reinsurance, under the leadership of Robert Stude.
"These meetings are important for insurance and reinsurance industry in Serbia, which is quite underdeveloped. Serbians insurance companies work on developing the insurance markets and life insurance, "said Milenka Mila Jezdimirović, Director of the Dunav insurance. "We must develop an awareness that security is an integral part of life and business as it is in the world. The insurance industry is an important lever of economic policy of each country and the government must recognize its importance, "she added.

General Secretary of the SorS Insurance Association, Damir Lačević, stressed the need for the state legislation, agencies to do their job properly and to form an unique association in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The first SorS was held in Split in 1980. The very next year, the meeting moved to Sarajevo and there continued to take place until today, with the pause from 1991 to 2000.
